Why I Chose CHKD:
In March of 2008, my youngest son, Pete, who was eight at the time, came down with a mysterious illness. We made several trips to the emergency room in Virginia Beach over 48 hours with no relief. The doctors were baffled and very concerned. They strongly insisted that he be immediately transported to CHKD. Nothing like this had ever happened in my family before and it was a VERY scary time. I had two young, strong, healthy, happy boys with no prior medical issues. As a result, I did not know much about CHKD.
From the moment Pete and I arrived at CHKD, I was amazed and dumbfounded by the level of care that he received. Everyone there was incredibly attentive, thorough, knowledgeable, and understanding. But there was also this dogged tenacity and unbelievable commitment from the entire staff to figure out what was wrong with Pete and to make him well. Thankfully, our story had a happy ending.
That experience had a major impact on me in many ways. One of the most important things I realized is how lucky and fortunate all of us in Hampton Roads are to have CHKD in our community! I think it’s imperative to do whatever we can to support CHKD so that they can serve families in need the way that they served my family.
What better way to raise money than to have a party on the beach! Boomer and Bobby’s Bay Beach Bash is going to be a blast! We have an AMAZING band and lots of prizes to be raffled. All proceeds will go to Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk. See you there!
